CAD Missions for Educators
A Mission-Based CAD Curriculum for Facilitated Learning
CAD Missions provides educators with a structured, hands-on CAD curriculum designed to support independent student work, real design thinking, and meaningful outcomes, without requiring constant instruction or complex classroom software.
This educator license is designed for independent teachers, STEM clubs, microschools, homeschool co-ops, makerspaces, and after-school programs using CAD as part of a guided learning environment.

How CAD Missions Works in Practice
CAD Missions provides the instructional structure.
Onshape provides the design environment. What is cad?
Each mission gives students:
-
Clear design goals
-
Specifications to interpret
-
Time to try before being shown
-
Optional hints and walkthroughs
Students design and build directly in Onshape, while CAD Missions provides the framework that guides learning and problem-solving.
Educators act as facilitators, supporting students as they work, rather than delivering long demonstrations or lectures.
Student Accounts & Classroom Management
CAD Missions does not manage student accounts or track student progress.
Instead:
-
Educators create and manage students directly through Onshape
-
Onshape provides free educator accounts and free student accounts
Students work independently using:
-
Printed CAD Missions books
-
PDFs provided by the educator
-
Project briefs referenced during design work
This approach keeps setup simple, avoids extra software overhead, and works in classrooms, clubs, and co-op environments.
